Introduction

The picture and quote above show that North and South did not see eye to eye. In this online module you will learn about the differences between the North and South before the Civil War.  In order to fully understand the Civil War, you must first examine the differences between the two sides.  There are four key differences:

Objectives

At the conclusion of this module, your objective is to:

1. Describe the differences in opinion towards slavery held by Northerners and Southerners.

2. Describe the cultural differences between North and South.

3. Describe the economic differences between North and South.

4. Describe the Constitutional differences between North and South.

Instructions

You may investigate each difference in any order and at your own pace.  It is recommended that you start with the first difference (opinions on slavery) and work your way down the list.

Use the links above and to the left to explore the 4 differences. After reading about each difference, you will answer questions to check your own understanding.  Once you have examined all four differences, you will log in to Edmodo and take an online test to assess your understanding.  The test will have 25 questions and an essay so make sure you truly understand the content before taking the test!
